BATTLE MINES

Famous Factions in Battle Mines

Isle of xade

Founder: xade

The Isle of xade is xade's personal faction, dedicated to the construction and detonation of as many Doomsday Devices (DDDs) as possible. xade has personally constructed and detonated three, with another being stolen and subsequently detonated.

The third DDD was a fantastic team effort which has opened the way for some exciting new developments. But only time will tell for the Isles next step.

With 7 members, held the top 5 positions on the ladder. (Nov 22, 2007)

Eudaimonia

Founder: Jemaat

Eudaimonia, colloquially known as “Peacenik Island” was a small island of peaceful Democrats, against warfare and destruction in general. They have since dissolved, with several members now belonging to the Tower of Escher.

The Hoffman Brigade

Founder: InanimateJ

The Hoffman Brigade was founded in mid to late 2006 by members of the QA department of AirG, who all began playing the game around the same time. It lacked direction and a platform, but succeeded in creating its own island, and wrestling control of the senate from Evil Island for a short period of time. It had begun work on a Doomsday Device, before ultimately dissolving following the first Scrambler detonation. Former members now work as mercenaries and solo warlords, with some having pledged their services to other factions.

Evil Island

Founder: Robulus

Evil Island, made up of several high-ranking players, formed one of the superpowers of late 2006. With a vendetta against a couple members of The Hoffman Brigade, warfare was fairly constant between the two factions for a while, before both slowly dissolved. Evil Island was ravaged by a series of invasive attacks by Crovaz shortly after he left the Hoffman Brigade to pursue a life of mercenary work. Many of the former members of Evil Island joined together to form The World Police, following the first Scrambler detonation.

The World Police

Founder: UberTrout

Made up of some of the highest-ranking players in the game, in addition to several more from the grunt ranks, the World Police charged themselves with literally 'policing the world'. From vassalizing people for unleashing Godzilla upon innocent islands to chasing down criminals into the Promised Land, the members of the World Police kept the world safe for as long as they could. Ultimately, though, they would slowly begin to dissolve when their leader UberTrout mysteriously went into exile early in 2007.

Under UberTrout the World Police pioneered several advanced group tactics, assigning specific roles to members such as naval officer, black marketeer, meteorological and environmental support, scouting and black ops. At the peak of their power they were virutally untouchable, but all good things come to an end.

The Tower of Escher

Founder: LynxShaman

Not much is known about the mysterious faction known as the Tower of Escher, despite having the largest membership of any Faction. Rumors leak of something known as the Monolith, but the Tower has been quiet on what exactly this pertains to. Publicly, LynxShaman has claimed that they are the Faction of the Builders. Many outside reports indicate they are the new Isle of xade, determined to build a Doomsday Device and enforce a new world order upon the Battle Miners. Some say they are prophets, readying themselves to usher in the new era, others claim they are terrorists, an organization bent on driving fear into the hearts of the weak.

In May of 2007, the Tower made an unprecedented move, saving resources and working together to complete the final 50% of the “Fraggle Rock” Doomsday Device within a single cycle. This Device was activated beside Nanich, former member of the group that betrayed them, bringing them some small measure of vengeance.

In December of 2007, the Tower, along with their allies in the Love Machines, achieved yet another first. The Tower constructed and set off both a Scrambler and a Doomsday Device, which was known as the “Christmas at Ground Zero” Scrambler/DDD combo. This was achieved despite great resistance from the Isle of xade, which sought to steal LynxShaman's DDD in the last day, and again at the last minute before activation. The combo was completed and set off within a single cycle, requiring 45% to be added in total, made more difficult by Weapons Taxation being in place.

The Love Machines

Founder: Albatross

The Love Machines are made up entirely of former members of the Tower of Escher. Leaving to escape the numerous idles the Tower had picked up, the Machines have proven to be more militant than the Tower in many cases. They are known to Land Exchange frequently, renaming the tiles to Love Machines or some variation on that theme. One plot using tis strategy was to make a “Sea of Sand”. (Badahawk) Although they had departed the Tower, the Machines continue to be on good terms with their former Faction, and the two commonly will work together (or at least try to avoid stepping on each others' toes). They proved integral to the “Christmas at Ground Zero” Scrambler/Doomsday Device combo, as they provided much needed aid after xade's attempt to foil the Tower.

Far Far Away

Founder: comtaler

Little was known about Far Far Away, despite their brief but impressive rise. Rumours credit them with the exile of UberTrout from the World Police, others credit them with warmongering and general chaos. Although their numbers were few, they moved up the rankings quite rapidly, on par with the Tower of Escher, and were briefly among the top factions in the world.

The Rad Jousters

Founder: pwngrenadier

Quite possibly the largest group of renegades and pirates to grace the world of Battle Mines, the Jousters were actually led by Pirate. After building a Launchpad on their remote island in the northeastern provinces, they proceeded to terrorize the world with a serial nuclear war, nuking all those they saw fit to be nuked. Eventually, after being run out of town by the World Police, and many other public speakers, they have since ceased activity, their mines falling silent, their Launchpad twisted and destroyed.

The Nomen

Founder: Noman

A group long since lost in the mists of time and half-forgotten legend, the Nomen were the first faction to build a highly integrated and cohesive unit, strongly supporting any member who fell behind a productive trend. Noman naturally formed the indominatable core of the group, holding the title of Overseer for several months until his retirement in late 2006.
