BATTLE MINES

Famous Faces

Battle Mines has been shaped by the players that call the game home. These are some of the players that have made themselves known, sometimes becoming famous (or infamous). Why not add your own, or that of a friend?

Rasteroid

Not merely the creator of Battle Mines, Rasteroid is also a hugely successful Battle Miner, not uncommonly having 8-10 titles to his name, such as (among the more lasting examples) Lord High Executioner, Seeker of Balance, Sower of Discord, A Grizzled Veteran (or Bolshevik) of Yore, Somewhat Eccentric/Mad with Power, Brilliant Strategist, and Master Builder (or some other leader title, such as Global Leader).

Clearly an enormous egomaniac, Rasteroid ultimately proves that there is no benevolent god by cheating occasionally and telling everyone about it less occasionally.

Path: Battle Miner

Faction: Currently the Deep Children.

Claims to Fame: Created Battle Mines, detonated a Doomsday Device, various insanely high Most Vassals scores.

LynxShaman

A self-described evil mastermind, LynxShaman rules over a land of the undead. LynxShaman hails from Necropolis. Although he has occassionally been forced from this land through battle, he is currently residing in it once more. LynxShaman is a vocal proponent for the Builder path, and is generally nonviolent and helpful with diplomatic players. Although LS may see himself as an evil mastermind, he often ends up seeming more of a cartoon foil, as all of his many attempts at the creation of a Doomsday Device have been foiled by other players. This has changed slightly, as the aid of the Tower of Escher has allowed him to accomplish his long term goal of setting off a Doomsday Device, surprising everyone by jumping from 50 to 100 percent in a single cycle. He was also able to complete and activate another in conjunction with InanimateJ's Scrambler, despite resistance by xade, thanks to help from the Love Machines and the other members of the Tower.

Path: Builder

Faction: The Tower of Escher (Boss)

Claims to Fame: Founded the Tower of Escher, which is currently the largest and highest ranked Faction; Defeated the legendary Methuselah, gaining impossible tithes. Convinced Rasteroid that some underlings should contain candy. Activated the “Fraggle Rock” Doomsday Device. Activated the Doomsday Device component of the “Christmas at Ground Zero” Scrambler/Doomsday Device combo.

Nanich

The former Official Mascot of Battle Mines, and long time Speaker of the Senate. A long time member of the Tower of Escher, Nanich recently betrayed this Faction to the World Police, unexpectedly assaulting the Faction and pretending remorse, only to reveal that his friendly demeanor and apparent loyalty was a clever ruse to hide his true allegiance. This led to the loss of his Official Mascot title, which was replaced by an equally unique but somewhat less positive title, Benedict Arnold.

Path: Builder

Faction: The World Police

Claims to Fame: Given the title Official Mascot of Battle Mines, before it was replaced by the title Benedict Arnold. Spent much time as both Speaker of the Senate and Master of Battle Mines. Possessed the tallest Monument thus far seen in Battle Mines (600 feet), before it was destroyed. Betrayed his former Faction to another.

Jemaat

Jemaat stepped back from a belligerent beginning as a Battle Miner, even before the warlord experience was truly played out, to become a peaceable voyager on the Sea of Rust. Before the days of factions, he struck upon an arrangement of mutual benefit with fellow builder and adventurer JC; after a time, others joined them to form the first cooperative island. After a hiatus in late 2006, and in the new era of factions and islands so vast that one cannot see from one side to the other, Jemaat seeks to find a middle ground between readiness for combat and industrial/technological progress.

Path: Miner

Current Faction: The Tower of Escher

Claims to Fame: The first Democrat; founded Eudaimonia, one of the first factions and the predecessor faction to the Tower of Escher.

Pirate

Pirate's tenure as a Battle Miner was brief - he may even be considered a one-hit wonder of sorts - but he was wildly successful in inflaming the Battler vs Builder divide as never before. Together with his faction, and constantly dogged by accusations of multi-playing, Pirate used the Launchpad of the time, which allowed for the targeting of anyone at any time, to strike well-known builders and some of the highest-ranking players, indeed, anyone who presented themselves as a target - all from the safety of the island shared by him and his faction-mates. As a consequence, both Pirate, and his island spent large portions of their time suffering fallout levels in excess of 30, but then, so did the mainland.

Near the end, Pirate regularly ploughed through targets with more than 10 ICBMs to their name, and some of his more extravagant victories include Trymon (who was not only high-ranking, but due to his possession of a Radar, suffered minimal damage and fallout from his eventual loss), Severian (who had the nerve to annex 21 Battle Mines for a single turn), xade (for ranking too highly), and comtaler (who had built a Statue). He disappeared shortly following changes to the Launchpad (and, some would note, also shortly following security enhancements that made it more difficult to multiplay).

Path: Battler

Faction: Rad Jousters

Claims to Fame: Blowing things up from a great distance; an unparalleled hate figure for many.

Robulus

Robulus continues to defy categorisation even long after his Battle Mine has fallen silent. Appearing with impeccable timing to create one of the first factions, Evil Island, he went on to lead a highly successful warlord life, acquiring more than 20 vassals at a time, but also managed to upgrade his hull extensively into the bargain. Near the end of his 200-day rise to power, Robulus constructed and detonated the first Scrambler, further demonstrating his capacity for high-powered industrial effort, and there has been only radio silence from his Battle Mine since.

Path: Battle Miner

Faction: None

Claims to Fame: Building and detonating the first Scrambler; founded Evil Island; achieved a massive Most Vassals score; commonly achieved Global Leader rank.

Psiweapon

Psiweapon is a player who has been through several phases, most prominently, bitchy underdog, warlord, peacenik, monument builder, and bitchy underdog again.

Path: Currently Builder.

Faction: The Tower of Escher

Claims to Fame: Seizing Global Leaderdom frequently for several weeks after a nuking spree around February 2006, being a Peacenik, building the first 500 foot monument (later augmented to 600 feet by Nanich, and destroyed shortly afterwards by Varquai), annexing Methuselah and getting away with it (For some time... ;-)), and drawing those cute little pix representing the governments.
